COMMUNITY RESPONSE CONSULT

The meeting is in our community’s space, in it , we will express the true voice of the community, the outcome is the people’s decision, in the name of the people and it is a mandate for all to meet what is demanded.  

The immigrant community consult was based on three community meetings as follow:  

July 23 Woodbridge, VA Fred Lynn Middle School,

July 24 Dumfries Quantico San Francis of Assisi, Catholic Church,

July 26 Manassas All Saints Catholic Church  

More than 3500 people participated in the assembly; the meetings were divided in 2 parts:

First: with the participation of our lawyers, we informed the people about the implementation of this resolution and its consequences.

Second: we asked the opinion and the suggestions on the actions that the immigrant community will make to demand the termination of this law.

Third: we proceeded to vote on each of the proposals.

Fourth: after the proposals were approved, dates and places were set.

Fifth: all the decisions were approved by the majority.

THE OUTCOME:

Economic boycott: it Hill take place from Monday august 27 to Monday September 3rd. It consists in not buying absolutely anything in the Prince William County; nothing will be bought except in businesses owned by immigrants. The immigrant businesses will not be boycotted. We are calling all the residents of PWC to prepare for this event and to make your shopping in the neighboring counties such as Fairfax, Stafford and in cities like Alexandria.

March and Rally: on Sunday September 2, a massive march and rally will take place in the entire community.

Work Stop: on October 9 th, there will be a work stop, no immigrant will report to work, this could continue if it is found to be necessary.

Caravana of Solidarity for the immigrant community: a delegation of immigrant families and workers will visit the Loudon county, Culpeper city and other cities in which anti immigrant laws have been promoted, other cities in Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC will be visited.

Voter’s registration campaign: we will those who have the right o vote to register before the next elections.

Civil education Campaign: it consist in promoting respect to the laws and to the understanding of cultural diversity and the practices of communal living. (Both communities)

Information Campaign: This campaign will be permanent; it wil provide clear and professional information within the community.

International campaign of denounce: to the international institutions of human rights and to denounce the silence of the governments of the countries of origin of the immigrants.
